Cord System

At this level capoeirista enter a new stage of capoeira as they concentrated more on their teaching ability. Here capoerista is expected to have more responsability and devotion to capoeira and the group. Capoeirista is also evaluated by the head of the group, and moving to the next level is longer and capoerista is evaluated based on their technique, character, discipline, capoeira skills and teaching skills.

Blue Cord Blue Cord (Graduado)
Students earn the title of Formado/Graduado at this level. Students enter a new stage of capoeira as they are assessed more on their teaching ability. A formado/graduado who begins teaching class earns the title and respect of an instructor.
Green Cord Green Cord (Instructor)
Instructor at this level, capoeristas continue to improve their skills, which now include teaching. They are very strong in the roda, and are equally strong in their instruction. Their strength comes from their ability to incorporate Malicia( deviousness) into their game. It's malicia that gives capoeiristas their ability to surprise and confuse their opponents.
Purple Cord Purple Cord (Professor)
Professor capoeirstas at this level have proven themselves as skilled martial artists and proficient teachers. They are regarded very highly because of their progress and devotion to capoeria. Their macilia skills continue to increase, as they now apply the knowledge they've gained within the roda to their dealings with the outside world, and vice-versa.
Brown Cord Brown Cord (Contra-Mestre)
Contra-masters are not only some of the most important figures in their group, but in the world of capoeria itself. They are the right hand of their masters, and are so esteemed and honored that, even at this level, they are respected as masters. Formidable players in the roda, contra- masters can seamlessly combine all of their skills into a fierce and relentless game.
Red/Blue Cord Black Cord (Mestre)
This is the apex for capoeirstas. Mestres are legendary for their skill, wisdom, and tact both inside and outside of the roda. They have solidified their capoeria game by consolidating all of their physical skills with the cunning and trickery they've learned through their lives. Masters comprise the top echelon of all capoeira groups and rightfully oversee the activities of their group.
